The Unarmed Child by Michael Bussewitz-Quarm is a gorgeous, deeply moving work composed in response to gun violence against children. The work sensitively navigates this difficult subject with beautiful, poignant, healing words, and music.
The Cry of Jeremiah is the first major work by African-American composer, Rosephayne Powell. With texts from the Book of Jeremiah, the four movements follow the prophets feelings of abandonment and redemption by God. Powel combines the ancient words with music drawn simultaneously from African-American musical heritage and classical music traditions.
With these concerts, we choose to Rise Up and Sing out for change, hope, and reconciliation.
